About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Sri Vijaya Puram,  exclusively serving island students was established in 2009,  offering the B.Tech Civil Engineering program under the affiliation of Pondicherry University. From 2024 onwards, the department proudly continues its academic journey under Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning, marking the beginning of a new chapter with the first batch of Civil Engineering students under the new affiliation. Our department plays a crucial role in developing sustainable infrastructure and trained manpower for the island territories — balancing modern engineering knowledge with local environmental and socio-economic realities.

Mrs.T.Diana Joslin Head of Department(I/c)

Dear Students, Faculty, and Visitors,

It gives me immense pride to lead the Department of Civil Engineering at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Sri Vijaya Puram, the only engineering institution serving the youth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Since its inception in 2009, our department has been dedicated to shaping engineers who combine technical excellence with social responsibility and environmental awareness.

Civil Engineering at DBRAIT is more than a degree — it is a mission to build, preserve, and sustain our fragile island ecosystem. We work in close collaboration with government departments, industries, and research organizations to ensure that every student learns not only the fundamentals of engineering but also the real-world relevance of their profession.

Our IGBC Gold Certified Green Campus reflects our strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. Students here benefit from a hands-on curriculum with mandatory site visits, modular certifications, mini projects, internships, and skill audits that ensure holistic development. Tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, QGIS, and Revit BIM are integrated into our teaching to prepare students for a globally competitive profession.

The department also provides consultancy and advisory services for government and local bodies — including APWD quality assessment, soil and water testing, DPR formulation, and planning support for infrastructure development in the islands. These opportunities not only strengthen institutional credibility but also expose students to meaningful professional practice.

Our strength lies in our students — respectful, resilient, and adaptive — who are guided to overcome challenges and realize their potential through mentorship, teamwork, and community service. Together, we aspire to develop engineers who think critically, design sustainably, and lead ethically.

I invite you to explore our programs, facilities, and ongoing initiatives that make the Department of Civil Engineering at DBRAIT–Sri Vijaya Puram a unique hub for learning, innovation, and service to society.

Warm regards,

Mrs. T. Diana Joslin
Head of the Department, Civil Engineering
