About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering came into inception in the year 1984 providing Diploma in Civil Engineering. In the year 1999, the department also received the laurel of ISO-9004 certification along with the other departments of the institution. In 2003 the existing ISO systems were upgraded to new standards of ISO 9001:2000. In addition to above, the department got the NBA certification from the National Board of Accreditation under All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). Department also spear headed the process to get ISO 14000 accreditation for the institution.

The department started B.Tech program in Civil Engineering with effect from 2009. The intake capacity in the Diploma programme is for 60 students. B.Tech has an intake of 30 students in the first year and with additional 30% seat in the second year for lateral entry of diploma students.

The department has seven main well equipped labs viz Material Testing Lab, Survey Lab, Geotechnical Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, Civil Computation Facility, Transportation Engineering Lab and Geology Lab.

The department has been responsible for starting a green initiative to maintain green and clean campus by adopting environmental friendly practices such as:

  1. Effluent Treatment Plant to treat the night soil and sullage from quarters, hostels and academic buildings within the campus.
  2. Paper Recycling Plant to recycle the paper waste generated in the campus.
  3. Windrow Composting to convert the organic waste into useful manure which is used in the campus garden.
  4. Design and construction of mini gravity dam (BUND) across a perennial stream to recharge the ground water table and to augment the water supply in the campus
  5. Converting the existing academic block to a green building in association with IGBC.

Faculty Profile

Supporting Staff
Infrastructure

1. Construction Materials Testing & Concrete Laboratory (CMTC Lab)
This laboratory facilitates testing of construction materials such as cement, aggregates, concrete, and bricks. Students learn to evaluate material properties, quality, strength, and durability using standard testing equipment.

2. Survey Laboratory
The Survey Lab is equipped with modern surveying instruments including Total Stations, Auto Levels, GPS, and traditional chain surveying tools. Students gain field experience in measurement, mapping, and land survey techniques.

3. Civil Computation Facility -Laboratory (CCF Lab)
This lab provides computer systems with industry-standard software for drafting, modelling, estimation, and project planning. Students are trained in CAD tools and digital workflows used in modern civil engineering projects.

4. Geotechnical Engineering/Soil Mehanics Laboratory (G.Tech Lab)
The lab supports geospatial technology learning including GIS and remote sensing fundamentals. Students explore data acquisition, spatial analysis, and preparation of thematic maps for planning and development.

5. Highway/Transportation  Engineering Laboratory
Students conduct tests on road construction materials including bitumen and aggregates. The lab supports learning related to pavement design, traffic studies, and highway material characteristics.

6. Public Health & Environmental Engineering Laboratory (PHE Lab)
This lab enables testing and analysis of water, wastewater, and environmental parameters. Students perform sampling, water quality assessment, and pollution monitoring to understand environmental compliance and sustainability.

7. Applied Mechanics Laboratory
This facility helps students understand fundamental principles of engineering mechanics through experiments on forces, moments, friction, and equilibrium using demonstration models and testing apparatus.
