DBRAIT Hosts Faculty Development Programme on Academic Research, Proposal Writing, and IPRs
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme “Promoting Academic Research, Scholarly Publications, Proposal Writing, and IPRs”, aiming to enhance the research and academic writing capabilities of its faculty members.
The session began with an inaugural address by Prof. (Dr.) Sanmukh Kaur, who emphasized the importance of integrating research into day-to-day teaching practices. She urged faculty to stay engaged with evolving academic trends, encourage inquiry-based learning, publish in reputed journals, uphold academic integrity, and leverage institutional resources such as digital libraries and mentoring platforms. “Scholarly publishing is not just about recognition; it’s about meaningful contribution to the global knowledge economy,” she remarked.
A technical session led by Dr. Muthu Kumaran E focused on effective proposal writing and the nuances of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). He discussed aligning research proposals with the expectations of funding agencies, defining clear research objectives and methodologies, and identifying measurable outcomes. Dr. Kumaran also provided a comprehensive overview of patent laws, innovation disclosure procedures, and strategies to promote interdisciplinary and student-led research. He further highlighted institutional support mechanisms for patent filing and commercialization, and elaborated on funding avenues available through national bodies such as DST, SERB, and AICTE.
Adding a practitioner’s perspective, Mr. Rajib Bagh, Lecturer (Diploma) in the Computer Science and Engineering Department, spoke about DBRAIT’s ongoing efforts to create a vibrant research ecosystem. He detailed current initiatives aimed at empowering faculty and students to actively engage in research and innovation.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Tejinder Singh, Training & Placement Officer, DBRAIT, who also delivered the vote of thanks. He appreciated the faculty’s active participation and reiterated the institute’s commitment to organizing more such programmes and hands-on workshops to nurture a culture of academic excellence.
